A Month of Virtue: Mercy: 30 Days to a More Merciful Heart

Most of us know we should be merciful. Few of us know how.

A Month of Virtue: Mercy is a thirty-day Catholic formation book for anyone who finds forgiveness hard, suspects their sins may be beyond God's patience, or has been giving mercy as a performance because they have never quite received it as a gift.

Each day offers a brief reflection drawn from Scripture and the saints - from the Prodigal Son's father who runs, to the woman caught in adultery, to St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy, to St. John of God carrying the sick on his own back. Every reading is followed by a single verse from the Douay-Rheims Bible, one small concrete resolution for the day, and a short closing prayer.

This book moves in four arcs across the thirty days. The first week establishes what mercy truly is - not tolerance or niceness, but love bending toward misery, holding justice and compassion without betraying either. The second week goes deep into receiving God's mercy: through the confessional, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the Sacred Heart, the Jesus Prayer, and the confidence that the Father who sees from far off is already running. The third week turns outward to the mercy owed to others - the works of mercy, the forgiveness of enemies, the woman in the dust, the poor at the gate. The final week turns inward: mercy toward one's own weakness, patience with slow growth, the refusal of the inner accuser, and a closing consecration of the whole month to the Divine Mercy and the Sacred Heart.

The book is grounded in one governing principle: we cannot give what we have not truly received. Before this month asks anything of the reader, it leads them to the Heart from which all mercy flows.

Ideal for Lent, Divine Mercy Sunday, or any month when forgiveness feels beyond reach.
