The Monks And The Giants: Prospectus And Specimen Of An Intended National Work is a book written by John Hookham Frere in 1821. The book is a satire and a parody of medieval romances, and it is set in the fictional kingdom of Ballybunion. The story follows the adventures of two monks, Brother John and Brother Thomas, who set out on a journey to find the lost city of Ballyspellin. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and challenges, including giants, witches, and dragons. The book is written in a humorous and satirical style, and it pokes fun at the conventions of medieval romances. The Monks And The Giants was intended to be the first part of a larger work, but Frere never completed the project. Despite this, the book remains an important example of early 19th-century satire and parody. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
