The Monikins is a satirical novel written by the American author James Fenimore Cooper. The book follows the adventures of a group of intelligent monkeys, known as Monikins, who live on an island in the South Pacific. The Monikins are highly evolved and have developed their own society and language, which is a parody of human culture. The story begins with the arrival of a shipwrecked English sailor named Jack Tier, who is rescued by the Monikins. Jack is amazed by the intelligence and sophistication of the Monikins and soon becomes embroiled in their political and social affairs. As the story unfolds, Jack learns about the Monikin's complex political system, which is based on a hierarchy of intelligence and physical strength. He also becomes involved in a love triangle between two Monikin princesses, who are vying for his affections.Throughout the book, Cooper uses the Monikins as a vehicle for satirizing human society and culture. He explores themes such as politics, religion, and social hierarchy, and offers a critique of the flaws and shortcomings of human civilization.Overall, The Monikins is a witty and entertaining novel that offers a unique perspective on human society and culture through the eyes of a group of intelligent monkeys. My ancestor in the male line hesitated to reply, for, hitherto, his ideas had been confined to the profits; never having dared to lift his thoughts as high as that source from which he could not but see they flowed in a very ample stream; but thrown upon himself by so unexpected a question, and being quick at figures, after adding ten per cent. to the sum which he knew the last year had given as the net avail of their joint ingenuity, he named the amount, in answered to the interrogatory. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
