Moments Before the Storm, a short anthology of radical poems, short stories, and short essays. Written between 2022 and 2024, it explores leftist ideas of societal change, along with personal struggles with addiction and mental health peppered in. A cry for change, this anthology begs to be heard, as a call for action in a disengaged society that constantly chooses comfort over equality. As it explores various topics, one stands constant, capitalism is crushing the people. As it dips in and out of political rants, mental health issues, and addiction, we see that the common theme is that capitalism and the system we live in is the main culprit behind these issues.
The book almost berates the reader at times, amplifying the issues at hand. What are we to do to fix this? is the main question being asked within the book. As extreme as it may be, the simple answer is to start over. The not so simple part is the action behind that statement, and the terrifying reality of what that would bring to our society, but it is necessary. This book is meant to push those with the privilege to political action against our current system for the greater good of all people living under capitalist oppression. Harsh and uncomfortable at times, this is a wake up call to those of privilege. We hold the power to act out in defiance and we must not squander this moment.
The author's short and in your face writing style is with purpose and not to be taken as hyperbolic. The directness is intentional, the harshness is intentional, the urgency is intentional. Our society has been heading in the direction of fascism for decades now, and minority groups would argue that it's always been this way. Only until recent years, have things started to accelerate into dangerous waters, in the eyes of the majority. To those still in the dark or on the edge of leftist ideas, this is a wake up and a call to action. Our society is falling to fascist capitalism and we can no longer sit back and watch.
