The Mistake I Couldn't Forget is a gentle, encouraging story about what happens when a mistake keeps replaying in your mind.
When Maya accidentally damages her science poster and becomes afraid of getting in trouble, she tries to hide what happened. But even after the problem is repaired, she can't stop thinking about her mistake. With help from her parents and teacher, Maya learns an important truth:
Making a mistake does not make you a bad person.
Through Maya's experience, children discover a simple five-step way to move forward:
NOTICE → OWN IT → REPAIR → LEARN → TRY AGAIN
This heartwarming story helps children learn how to:
- Take responsibility without drowning in shame
- Apologize and make things right
- Understand the difference between remembering a mistake and reliving it
- Learn from what went wrong
- Practice self-forgiveness
- Try again after making a mistake
- Build resilience, courage, and self-kindness
With practical activities, discussion questions, guidance for trusted adults, and an optional faith connection, The Mistake I Couldn't Forget gives children a language and a practical tool for handling mistakes with honesty, responsibility, and hope.
A meaningful addition to homes, classrooms, counseling settings, and children's emotional-learning libraries.
