A Missionary Synod With a Mission provides a comprehensive and reflective memoir marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States. Written by G. J. Zeilinger, this work chronicles the growth, spiritual struggles, and expansion of a vital branch of American Lutheranism during its formative decades in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The book explores the synod's deep commitment to missionary activity and its role in establishing a religious identity within the American Midwest. Through detailed accounts of congregational development and the synod's organizational evolution, Zeilinger captures the essence of a faith community dedicated to its theological heritage while navigating the challenges of a changing social landscape. This volume serves as an essential historical resource for understanding the regional influence of the Lutheran church and the dedicated individuals who shaped its mission. Readers interested in religious history, midwestern heritage, and the development of American denominations will find this memoir both informative and insightful, offering a window into the dedication required to build a lasting ecclesiastical institution.
