Miscellaneous New Chalcid-Flies of the Hymenopterous Family Encyrtidae is a specialized taxonomic monograph that provides detailed scientific descriptions of parasitic wasps within the order Hymenoptera. Authored by the noted entomologist P.H. Timberlake, this work represents a significant contribution to the field of systematic biology, specifically focusing on the diverse and ecologically important family Encyrtidae.
The text focuses on the identification and classification of previously undocumented genera and species, offering precise morphological data essential for researchers and students of entomology. Because many chalcid-flies act as natural regulators of insect populations, the study of their taxonomy is vital not only for evolutionary biology but also for understanding biological control mechanisms in agriculture. Timberlake's rigorous observations highlight the complexity and variety found within these minute insects, providing a clear window into the biodiversity of the early 20th century.
This volume serves as an invaluable reference for those interested in the history of insect science, the intricacies of chalcidoid taxonomy, and the broader study of the Encyrtid family. It remains an essential read for anyone dedicated to the rigorous documentation of the natural world.
