Milk and Cookies and Carrots
By: Billie Annette
In Milk and Cookies and Carrots, you are invited into a swirl of life experiences from slivers of joyousness to peace, concern, and wonder. Some of these works cleverly remind the reader not to overlook everyday gifts of which life makes us the benefactor, to live a best life, and to never forget the purity and wisdom of children.
About the Author
Billie Annette is an Ojibwe poet who draws inspiration for writing from her life in northern Minnesota and from her husband, James. She continues to appreciate and learn from her adult kids and grandkids. Her fourth book is in progress.
Early readers of Milk and Cookies and Carrots have offered the following:
This brilliant work engages the reader immediately, to fill in the gaps of the words that do not appear on the page, as if we already know them. There is familiarity with the carefully chosen words and phrases that help to tell the story even though they are not usually articulated in this way.
Billie has an uncanny way of putting words together that our spirit understands and we can relate to on an emotional level, 'a wail lurking in her jaw.' The impact of her words are powerful and I find myself reading them over and over in wonder, and finding more meaning.
This selection of work causes the reader to become an active participant in her story-sharing, it is enlightening and full of wonder.
This is her best book yet! Loved it!
I felt like I was there, that I could feel and see what I was reading.
