By: Marion R. Hemperley, Pub. 1983, reprinted 2025, 170 pages, soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-685-7. The certificates from which this list of some 2,000 Revolutionary and Oconee War participants was compiled were part of the process whereby individuals applied for and, in most cases, received bounty land in Georgia. In order to receive that type of grant, a person was required to present a document, sometimes called a voucher, from his former commanding officer. This paper usually contains the type of service in which that person had served and, in most instances, gives his exact unit and former rank. When the voucher was presented to the state land court, and if found valid, a formal certificate was signed and issued by the Governor. No complete military service records exist in Georgia for veterans of the Revolutionary and Oconee Wars but with this publication of this list it is hoped that the information contained within will help fill that void.
