The Rescue of Mia and Maverick of Dogland is an adventure story to help children deal with the effects of today's drug culture. Written in the style of C.S. Lewis, Lewis Carroll and L. Frank Baum, it takes place in a fantasy setting existing within our modern world.
The toddlers, Mia and Maverick, must live with their grandparents when their birth parents submit to the evil magic of the wizard Methlian and his wife Heroine. When the parents return to take the kids to the wizard's castle, it's up to a lovable pack of dogs, and one confused cat, to rescue them. Traveling from their country home, they enter the city and overcome numerous perils while searching for and rescuing their missing kids. The pack contains a collection of colorful characters with vivid personalities, including Boomer, the Aussie-accented heeler who knows no fear, to Marty, the scared chihuahua who has to learn to conquer fear, to Kittydog, who hasn't quite figured out his own species yet, and other varied personalities. They learn about bravery, cooperation, leadership, resourcefulness, and above all else, love and loyalty.

In addition to being a captivating quest story, serious lessons are subtly presented within the thrilling adventure that all children will relish. The story is written to be read aloud to very young children. Older children find it useful as a primer they are excited to read. The villains are named and created in a fashion to foster a negative association towards their illicit namesakes in all young children. Hopefully this will help provide a basis for resistance later in their life. (After all, how many adults can honestly deny still being scared of OZ's wicked witch of the west?) The story guides those children, who have lost their parents to the ravages of drug addiction, to understand how their parents' initial bad decisions resulted in their loss of free will. Children learn that the destruction of their family had nothing to do with them but resulted from their parents allowing the introduction of Methlian and Heroine into their lives. This will assist them to develop to a healthier coping understanding of the trauma, and the children learn they can escape from the underworld of the drug culture into a brighter, happier world. Children outside of this world will see its effects be encouraged to avoid it and develop compassion for innocent victims of it.
