With passion and knowledge, William Scroggie encourages readers to consider the facets of praying. Such is prayer's vitality in the Christian life, that we find in this book a lengthy scrutiny of the types of prayer, and the methods the believer can use to achieve the most from his time at prayer. Prayers of petition, wherein a believer asks that something happen on a personal or worldly level, are distinguished from prayers of thankfulness, or internal discussions with God.
William Scroggie was born in Scotland to a large family. Though he grew up in modest circumstances and with modest education, he displayed a great aptitude for religious matters, and was a voracious student of the Bible. He enrolled into university, and was able to gain entry to the priesthood as a Baptist minister. His staunchly traditional views however were at odds with his contemporaries, and for a time he lived in poverty without a congregation - it was during and soon after this period of hardship that Scroggie's finest works were put to paper.
