Mephisto Waltz: The Story of Franz Liszt is a biographical account of the life and works of the famous Hungarian composer, pianist, and conductor Franz Liszt. Written by Ann M. Lingg, the book traces Liszt's early years as a child prodigy, his rise to fame in Europe as a virtuoso pianist, his relationships with other famous musicians of his time, and his later years as a composer and conductor. The book also explores Liszt's personal life, including his romantic relationships with women such as Countess Marie d'Agoult and Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, as well as his religious and philosophical beliefs. Throughout the book, Lingg provides detailed descriptions of Liszt's musical compositions, including his famous piano works such as the Hungarian Rhapsodies and the Transcendental Etudes. She also discusses Liszt's contributions to the development of orchestral music, including his innovations in symphonic poem composition. Overall, Mephisto Waltz: The Story of Franz Liszt offers a comprehensive and engaging look at the life and legacy of one of the most influential composers of the Romantic era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
