A Memorial and Remonstrance, On The Religious Rights Of Man: Written In 1784-85 (1828) is a book written by James Madison. The book is a collection of essays and speeches that Madison gave in defense of religious freedom and the separation of church and state. The book was written in response to a proposed bill in Virginia that would have established a state-supported religion and imposed religious taxes on citizens who did not belong to that religion. Madison argued that this would violate the principles of religious freedom and tolerance that were enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The book is a powerful and eloquent defense of the rights of individuals to practice their own religion, or no religion at all, without interference from the government. It is a seminal work in the history of American political thought and a testament to Madison's commitment to religious freedom and the separation of church and state. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1828 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
