The Memoirs of the Duke of Saint Simon V4: On the Reign of Louis XIV and the Regency is a historical book written by Louis de Rouvroy, also known as the Duke of Saint Simon. The book was first published in 1857 and is the fourth volume in a series of memoirs written by the author. The book provides a detailed account of the reign of Louis XIV, who was the King of France from 1643 to 1715, and the Regency period that followed his death. Saint Simon, who was a member of the French court during this time, offers a unique perspective on the events that took place during this period. The book covers a wide range of topics, including the political and social climate of France during the reign of Louis XIV, the court intrigues and scandals, the wars that were fought during this period, and the personalities of the people who played a role in shaping the history of France. The memoirs are written in a lively and engaging style, with Saint Simon's wit and humor shining through in his descriptions of the people and events he encountered. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in French history, politics, and society during the 17th and 18th centuries. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
