The book was originally published in 1872 and is considered a classic of Danish literature. The memoirs chronicle the life of Leonora Christina, who was born into a life of privilege as the daughter of a king. However, her life took a dramatic turn when she married Count Corfitz Ulfeldt, a powerful nobleman who fell out of favor with the king.
