This is a biographical tribute to Elisha Mitchell, a 19th-century American professor, geologist, and Presbyterian minister. Memoir [of Elisha Mitchell] recounts the life and accomplishments of a man dedicated to both scientific inquiry and religious devotion. The book details Mitchell's career, travels, and the circumstances surrounding his death while exploring the mountains of North Carolina, which now bear his name with Mount Mitchell.
More than a simple biography, this volume includes tributes from contemporaries, shedding light on Mitchell's character, intellect, and the profound impact he had on his community and the fields of science and religion. It is a valuable resource for those interested in the history of science in America, religious biography, and the intellectual landscape of the 19th century.
