The Melodrama in France from the Revolution to the Beginning of Romantic Drama, 1791-1830 is a historical analysis of the development of melodrama as a theatrical genre in France during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Written by James Frederick Mason and originally published in 1912, the book explores the social, political, and cultural factors that contributed to the rise of melodrama in France, as well as its evolution over time. Mason examines the works of prominent melodramatists such as Pixrcourt, Guilbert de Pixrcourt, and Victor Ducange, and analyzes the themes, characters, and theatrical techniques that defined the genre. He also considers the impact of melodrama on French society and its influence on subsequent movements in French theater. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of French theater, the development of melodrama as a genre, or the cultural and social context of 18th and 19th century France. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
