Meet Sven Bingossen, an adorable puppy with an unusual name and a talent for getting into trouble! His family struggles to find the perfect name until they realise they keep saying So when will he learn to...? every time he chews their shoes, chases the cat, has a potty accident, or even eats a spiky cactus. After saying So when... so many times, they discover the perfect name: S'ven!
The book follows Sven's everyday puppy mishaps with warmth, humour, and beautiful illustrations, ultimately celebrating that learning takes time and mistakes are simply part of growing up.
Why Parents and Teachers Will Love ItFor Parents:
- Reduces pressure - Helps children (and adults!) feel less frustrated when learning new skills takes time
- Relatable - Every child has their own chewing shoes and potty accident moments
- Conversation starter - Opens gentle discussions about patience, practice, and self-compassion
- Bedtime perfect - Sweet ending that reassures without preaching
For Teachers:
- Growth mindset foundation - Introduces the concept that everyone is learning and mistakes are normal
- Classroom management tool - Creates shared language around learning processes (We're all like Sven!)
- Social-emotional learning - Addresses frustration, patience, and kindness toward ourselves and others
- Engaging read-aloud - Repetitive structure and humour keep young listeners engaged
This book turns When will they learn? into They're learning right now! - a perspective shift every adult working with young children needs.
