This academic text aims to introduce the topic of mediatisation (cross-cultural changes in social and cultural transformation). The question 'To what extent do digital media influence the personal development of today's children and young people, and what preventative measures can social work offer in this regard?' will be explored through the following outline. The text begins by examining epidemiological data and studies by the mpfs (South-West Media Education Research Association) in relation to the individual chapters. Furthermore, the topic of the influence of digital media on children and young people will be examined in greater detail in order to understand the nature of the challenges posed by this issue within social work. Subsequently, preventive measures drawn from social pedagogy will be presented, followed by an outline of the approach and remit of social work. With regard to social work, the specific topic of digital media use in the field of open and mobile youth work will be addressed and presented directly on the basis of a concrete pilot phase carried out by MJA Basel.
