Medium Theory of the Atonement: And Review of Dr. Burney's Soteriology is a book written by G. H. Sheldrake and first published in 1888. The book is a theological study of the Christian doctrine of atonement, which is the belief that Jesus Christ's death on the cross reconciled humanity with God. Sheldrake presents his own theory of atonement, which he calls the medium theory. This theory proposes that Christ's death was not a direct payment for human sin, but rather a means of reconciling humanity with God through the medium of Christ's humanity. Sheldrake argues that Christ's humanity serves as a bridge between humanity and God, allowing for the restoration of the relationship between the two.The book also includes a review and critique of the soteriology (the study of salvation) of Dr. Burney, a contemporary theologian. Sheldrake examines Burney's views on atonement and salvation and offers his own analysis and critique.Overall, Medium Theory of the Atonement: And Review of Dr. Burney's Soteriology is a scholarly work that engages with important theological concepts and offers a unique perspective on the doctrine of atonement. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
