Written from the perspective of a fun-loving dog, Max: The Life and Death of an Amazing Friend tells the life story of a much-loved pet, teaching kids that death is a part of life and that a well-lived life is worth celebrating.
Max is an exuberant dog whose love for life fills his days and resounds after his passing. Max takes readers on a journey through his many joys, aging with grace, and resting in gratitude, even through sickness and death.
By recounting Max's adventures and the smiles he brought to so many, author Susan Whitley explores the power of remembrance in the midst of grief, and the wondrous ability that every individual possesses to impart joy to others. A closing quote from Revelation 4:11 reminds readers that life itself is a gift from our Creator whose goodness endures through life and death.
Recommended for children ages 4-8, Max: The Life and Death of an Amazing Friend offers a gentle approach to grief counseling. Through straightforward language and lighthearted illustrations, this simple story opens the door for discussion between children, parents, educators, and counselors, imparting comfort, encouragement, and a gateway to understanding this difficult topic.
