The riveting true story of seven Jewish prisoners at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria during World War II. Based on the award winning play, Block 5, also written by Ballantyne, the story follows the harrowing events which took place between November and December of 1943 in Block #5 of the camp.
Although many details of the actual incident(s) have been lost, the basic framework of life in Block #5 during this time period were accurately chronicled by one of the prisoners involved. The rest of the story has been dramatized in order to fill in the many gaps which exist. These men were real, these men were singled out for a specific purpose, these men were tortured in various ways by Nazi guards both mentally and physically. But these men were heroes -- they fought back.
This is a story of hope, of strength, of courage, of determination, of the unwillingness to bow down to the Nazi terror which threatened their lives each and every day. What took place in Block #5 at the Mauthausen Camp is a testament to the human spirit. It is a testament that evil can be challenged and that courage can take on many different forms in the process.
The Mauthausen 7 brings recognition to a little known horrific event which would have faded into the annals of history unrecognized had it not been for one pivotal courageous individual who refused to allow the Nazis to murder indiscriminately without reprisal or justice. That justice lives in the history of the seven courageous individuals who looked death in the face and refused to back down.
