Alexei Jawlensky was a Russian painter and a pioneer of Expressionism and abstract art. He focused on expressing the deep inner soul through intense colors and simplified forms. In 1924, Jawlensky formed The Blue Four (Die Blaue Vier) with Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Lyonel Feininger to promote German Expressionism and abstract art. They held several exhibitions in Europe and the United States, widely spreading the ideals of Modernist art.
Henri Matisse, a leading French painter and founder of Fauvism, explored color and form in a direction distinct from Impressionism. His works are renowned for their vibrant color contrasts and free forms, peaking in his cut-out series. Matisse's art embodies not only simple beauty but also profound philosophical meanings, capturing pure and peaceful moments amidst complex realities, and providing viewers with psychological stability and positive energy.
Sophie Taeuber-Arp was a Swiss Dada artist active in various fields including painting, sculpture, textiles, and dance. She focused on geometric abstraction and experimental compositions, and is well-known for her collaborations with her husband, Hans Arp.
