The Masque of Kings is a two-act play written by Maxwell Anderson. The play takes place in a mythical kingdom where the king is about to celebrate his 50th birthday. The king is a just and fair ruler, but he is also a bit of a dreamer. He is obsessed with the idea of creating a perfect society, where everyone is equal and happy. To celebrate his birthday, the king decides to hold a masquerade ball. The guests are asked to come dressed as their favorite historical figure, and the king himself will dress as a god. However, things take a dark turn when a group of rebels crashes the party. They are unhappy with the king's rule and want to overthrow him.The play explores themes of power, justice, and the nature of leadership. It asks whether it is possible to create a perfect society, and whether it is worth sacrificing freedom for security. The Masque of Kings is a thought-provoking play that will leave readers questioning their own beliefs about politics and society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
