Vishal finally has what he needed: an ally, a theory, and a plan. The film isn't about the policeman. It's about the other him, the nineteen-year-old whose phone is in his pocket, whose lighter he dropped at a crime scene, and who is missing from a city that still expects him at breakfast. What Vishal does with all of it is stand up his girlfriend and hang up on her mid-sentence, for a fight she won't have for another seven years. Jaydeep asks the only question worth asking: does this Nisha deserve it? She waits for him alone on a campus bench until dark. Somebody else finds her first.

Outside, the building stops pretending. A counter clerk lies a couple out of the lobby with three sentences so good her own boyfriend repeats them back to her as comfort. A projectionist puts a hundred and fifteen decibels through a wall to keep two kids off his door. And across town, a producer opens a drawer he has kept shut since page one of book one.

Volume 4 lets the two timelines hear each other, for about four minutes. Then it walks the whole night back to the locked door where this series began, and shows you exactly who was standing on the other side of it.

Because the real monster in this theatre was never the man in the booth. It was the man on the screen, and the girl who paid for what he did with his second chance.
