Mark Hurdlestone V1: The Gold Worshipper is a novel written by Susanna Moodie and first published in 1853. The story follows the life of Mark Hurdlestone, a wealthy and successful businessman who is obsessed with accumulating gold and material possessions. Despite his wealth, Mark is unhappy and unfulfilled, and his greed and selfishness alienate him from those around him, including his own family. As the story progresses, Mark's obsession with gold leads him into a series of dangerous and unethical business practices, and he becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid. Meanwhile, his daughter, Alice, falls in love with a young man named Frank Beverley, who is everything that Mark is not - kind, generous, and principled. Frank's influence begins to change Alice's perspective on life, and she becomes determined to help her father see the error of his ways.Mark's obsession with gold ultimately leads to his downfall, and he is forced to face the consequences of his actions. Through his experiences, he learns the true value of love, family, and human connection, and begins to understand that true happiness cannot be found in material possessions.Overall, Mark Hurdlestone V1: The Gold Worshipper is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that explores the dangers of greed and materialism, and the importance of human relationships and emotional fulfillment. In Two Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
