Man's Destiny in Eternity: The Garvin Lectures is a book written by Arthur Compton, a renowned physicist and Nobel laureate. The book comprises a series of lectures delivered by Compton at the University of Toronto in 1942. In these lectures, Compton explores the concept of human destiny in the context of eternity, drawing on scientific, philosophical, and theological perspectives.Compton begins by examining the nature of time and eternity, discussing the implications of Einstein's theory of relativity and the concept of time dilation. He then moves on to explore the nature of the human soul, drawing on Christian theology and the teachings of various philosophers.Compton also delves into the concept of free will and its relationship to determinism, discussing the role of quantum mechanics in shaping our understanding of the universe. He explores the concept of evil and the problem of suffering, offering insights into how these phenomena can be reconciled with a benevolent God.Throughout the book, Compton offers a unique perspective on the nature of human existence and the ultimate fate of humanity. His insights draw on a deep understanding of science, philosophy, and theology, making this book a thought-provoking and insightful read for anyone interested in the big questions of life and the universe. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
