A university graduate; Johnatan Dorenev and his fellow friends Robert Sarajawan and Mikhail Ghoranev seek jobs within the army force of Raouxia in hopes to feed their family as they plummet into student debt. However, their plan backfires as they are sent into battle agaisnt a terrorist organization known as Roanoke, who carries out attacks involving Spires, an alien structure which turns corpses and people into Legans; adapting, specialized and lethal zombies which originate from the Spire's electric-radiation, a non-biological plague that controls the dead and the living as a form of cancer that replaces the nervous system of a host.
The book explores a futuristic setting of 2020, where technology is used to maintain life and in that it demostrates how cruelty can be awarded in a world where violence is deemed a normal occurence.
