Written in collaboration with C. H. Bovill, these six linked stories first appeared in magazines in the 1910s and follow Roland through the episodes of his improbable rise. The collection includes The Episode of the Landlady's Daughter, The Episode of the Financial Napoleon, The Episode of the Theatrical Venture, The Episode of the Live Weekly, The Diverting Episode of the Exiled Monarch, and The Episode of the Hired Past. Together they form an early Wodehouse comic narrative full of misplaced confidence, social climbing, amiable foolishness, and the cheerful collapse of well-laid plans.
