The Making Of A Sailor: The Photographic Story Of Schoolships Under Sail by Alan J. Villiers is a book that takes readers on a journey through the world of schoolships and the art of sailing. The book is filled with stunning photographs that capture the beauty and excitement of sailing on the open sea. It tells the story of how young men and women were trained to become sailors on board these magnificent ships. The book covers the history of schoolships, from their origins in the early 19th century to their decline in the mid-20th century. It also explores the different types of schoolships, from the large and impressive training ships to the smaller and more nimble sailboats. The author provides detailed descriptions of the ships, the crews, and the training methods used to turn young men and women into skilled sailors. The book is a fascinating look at a bygone era, when sailing was not just a sport but a way of life. It is a must-read for anyone interested in sailing, maritime history, or the art of photography. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
