Churches need leaders. Communities need leaders. Schools need leaders. Ministries need leaders. Nations need leaders. The world is crying out for leaders who are not only gifted, educated, talented, or influential, but leaders who are surrendered to God, guided by the Holy Spirit, rooted in the Word, and committed to serving people with humility and integrity.
I wrote this book because I have seen many people desire leadership but not fully understand the process of becoming a leader. Many people want the title, the platform, the microphone, the recognition, the robe, the office, or the position, but they do not always understand the weight of responsibility that comes with leadership. True leadership is not about being seen. It is about being faithful. It is not about controlling people. It is about serving people. It is not about building one's own name. It is about glorifying the name of the Lord. The Bible teaches us that God is deeply concerned with leadership. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God raising up men and women for specific assignments. He called Noah to build. He called Abraham to father a nation. He called Moses to deliver Israel. He called Joshua to lead the people into the Promised Land. He called Deborah to judge and guide Israel with wisdom. He called David from the field to the throne. He called Esther into the palace for such a time as this. He called Nehemiah to rebuild the walls. He called Mary to carry the Savior. He called the disciples to follow Jesus and become fishers of men. He called Paul to preach the gospel to the nations.
In every generation, God has always raised up leaders. I wrote this book because I believe God is still raising up leaders today. He is calling people from different backgrounds, cultures, nations, and life experiences. He is calling young people and older people. He is calling men and women. He is calling pastors, teachers, counselors, apostles, prophets, evangelists, entrepreneurs, educators, parents, and servants. He is calling people who may feel unqualified, unnoticed, rejected, or unprepared. Yet God sees what others cannot see. He knows the purpose He placed inside of each person before they were formed in their mother's womb.
Jeremiah 1:5 says, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee. This Scripture reminds us that leadership does not begin with public recognition. It begins with divine purpose. God knew us before people knew us. God called us before people approved us. God assigned us before people understood us. I wrote this book for those who know there is a call upon their lives, but they are still trying to understand what that call means. Sometimes a person can feel the pull of God but not know how to respond. Sometimes a person can feel purpose stirring inside, but fear, doubt, insecurity, past wounds, or lack of support can make them hesitate. I want this book to encourage those individuals to trust God's process.
