Make Every Effort: Some Thoughts on Race and Reconciliation

They often generate more heat than light, leaving people frustrated, defensive, offended, and unsure how to move forward. Over the years, I've learned that the most effective answers aren't ultimately political or social. They're spiritual.

In this book, I invite you to join me on a journey shaped by more than fifty years of ministry that has included cross-cultural relationships, urban education, international travel, and friendships with people whose backgrounds and experiences differ greatly from my own. Along the way, I explore what Scripture says about race, identity, unity, prejudice, reconciliation, and the Church's role in a divided world.

I don't claim to have all the answers. My goal isn't to assign blame, win arguments, or promote an agenda. Rather, it's to explore how followers of Jesus can become part of God's solution by pursuing the unity that Christ prayed for and died to make possible.

Whether you agree with everything I write or not, I hope this book will challenge you to think, encourage you to listen, and inspire you to take your place in the ministry of reconciliation. After all, if reconciliation is God's idea, then it's worth making every effort.
