Nigel Winter is a moderately successful crime writer. By chance he meets up with Sheila Armstrong whose husband Mark has gone missing. Mark is a millionaire who owns two lavish homes in Gwent and Majorca and runs a highly successful business. Mark suddenly disappears in Majorca. Because she is aware of his successful crime writing career she enlists Nigel to help her find her missing husband. The background of their search revolves around Mark's supposed meeting up with Alfonso Diaz who is trying to arrange a merger of their two privately owned companies. They eventually discover that Diaz has a chequered criminal background.
Between them they subsequently find that Mark is being held prisoner at Diaz's mansion-type house. They then involve the Palma police who find that Mark has been drugged and moved to another premises on the island. The story takes Sheila and Nigel through several phases of investigation during which time they become lovers.
The Majorcan island is an integral part of the story and encompasses their search for the truth of Mark's problems.
