Magnalia Christi Americana, also known as The Ecclesiastical History of New England, is a two-volume book written by Cotton Mather. The book chronicles the history of the Christian Church in New England, from its earliest days in the year 1620 to the year 1698. The book is divided into seven sections, each of which covers a different era in New England's religious history. The first section covers the arrival of the Pilgrims in Plymouth and their struggle to establish a new religious community in the wilderness. The second section covers the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and the establishment of the Puritan Church in New England. The third section covers the Great Awakening, a religious revival that swept through New England in the 1730s and 1740s. The fourth section covers the rise of the Congregationalist Church and the decline of the Puritan Church in the late 17th century. The fifth section covers the Quaker movement in New England and the persecution of Quakers by the Puritan Church. The sixth section covers the establishment of the Anglican Church in New England and its conflicts with the Puritan Church. The seventh and final section covers the history of the Puritan Church in the 18th century, including its decline and eventual merger with other Christian denominations. Throughout the book, Mather provides detailed accounts of the lives and beliefs of prominent religious figures in New England, including John Winthrop, Roger Williams, and Increase Mather. Overall, Magnalia Christi Americana is an important historical document that provides valuable insights into the religious history of New England and the role of Christianity in shaping American culture and society.Contains Seven Books In Two Volumes.
