Macaulay's Lays of Ancient Rome: The Armada, Ivry, and the Battle of Naseby is a collection of narrative poems written by Thomas Babington Macaulay in 1842. The book features three poems that recount significant battles in Roman and English history. The first poem, The Armada, tells the story of the Spanish Armada's defeat by the English navy in 1588. The second poem, Ivry, describes the Battle of Ivry in 1590, where King Henry IV of France defeated the Catholic League. The final poem, The Battle of Naseby, recounts the English Civil War battle in 1645, where the Parliamentarians defeated the Royalists. Macaulay's Lays of Ancient Rome became a popular work in the 19th century and has been praised for its vivid storytelling and historical accuracy. This 1916 edition includes illustrations by John R. Neill and an introduction by Henry Cabot Lodge. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
