Luke, the author of this book, traveled back to Israel with Paul on the Third Missionary Journey. It is felt by many commentators that he spent two years in the land while Paul was in prison. Luke must have used this special time to do much of his careful research on the gospel materials. We can guess that he made a point to interview leaders like Peter, James, and other principals in the early church. The author of this commentary also spent much time in Israel. For sixteen years the author lived and ministered in the Land of Israel. As a result this commentary has an Israel flavor reflecting that experience. Few commentaries can come from this perspective. The author has utilized a great number of quotes, ancient and modern, from the best commentaries and other sources of information. With this single commentary it may be less likely that the reader will need to consult stacks of other materials in preparation for Bible study teaching or preaching.
