Bibliometrics have been around for decades; however, we have seen a recent surge in the interest in bibliometrics services at academic institutions together with the development of new bibliometrics tools. Navigating this rapidly evolving landscape can be a challenge for academic institutions as they attempt to try to determine which tools and skills sets will best meet their needs. This issue of Library Technology Reports, using broadly accessible plain language, will help guide decision makers and practitioners in their selection and use of current bibliometrics tools and related systems while offering insights into future directions.
