Little Spills and Other Poems I Cannot Contain
Poet and storyteller Kyra Freeman is like the little Dutch boy with her finger placed in a dam of imagery and intense emotion. Little Spills and Other Poems I Cannot Contain takes the reader from the ordinary to the sacred. As delicately as a spider weaves her web, Freeman weaves poetry expertly, intuitively, building a narrative of quiet nature and everyday noticing, to great heartbreak, an unfettered lyricism that is both vulnerable and compelling. Freeman speaks of the little match girl and the little match.com girl. Her background as a storyteller makes her poetry compulsively readable, as she taps into the primal nature of fairy tales imagery and makes them her own.
- Christina Xiong, poet, Story Medicine facilitator, author of The Gathering Song (Finishing Line Press, 2018) and other publications
If you are wondering what spills out of Kyra Freeman's second collection of poetry be prepared for this ...a well-curated treasure trove of wry smiles, communal connection, dogged determination, poignant remembrances, wonder, awe, instinct, whimsy, longing, courage, vision, insight, and a comfortable knowing of how the world impacts us on both the macro and the micro level. Set aside some time to allow these little spills to seep into the crevices of your own day to day.
- C. P. Whitaker, author of For Crying Out Loud and For The Love of God (iUniverse) and content creator of the Menopausal Mission website
