Little Beaver loves to build. Tiny forts, little dams, piles of sticks-creating things makes him happy. One day, he decides to build something bigger: a bridge across a rushing stream so the other animals can cross safely. It takes time, effort, and more than one try, but Little Beaver keeps going, log by log and piece by piece.
When the bridge is finally finished, Rabbit, Squirrel, and Duck all use it. But they hurry on without stopping to say anything. Little Beaver begins to wonder whether all his hard work mattered at all.
Then Mom and Dad Beaver arrive and ask a different question: Are you proud of yourself? Little Beaver thinks about the stream, the logs, the bridge, and all the effort it took to keep going. His answer is simple: I am. And that changes everything.
Warm, gentle, and encouraging, Little Beaver Learns to Be Proud helps children discover that pride does not have to depend on praise, applause, or approval from others. It can come from recognizing their own effort, growth, persistence, kindness, and accomplishments.
Perfect for young readers learning confidence and self-validation, this story invites children to ask themselves an important question:
What are you proud of yourself for?
