Lily Field has really big challenges in her life, some she overcomes, but others she will always have difficulty with and may never be successful at. Math, history, and science are her downfall. She loves to dance and to draw and paint, and in time, her fine motor skills improve, and she acquires quite a talent for both drawing and painting. With a loving family and a super grown-up neighbor named Sue, she learns practical skills that she can use, particularly in the kitchen. She learns to cook and she learns to bake, and these skills become quite useful when her mom is in an unfortunate car accident and hospitalized. Her brother Dan, who always had problems with her, realized over time that Lily was quite talented and grew to want to spend more time with her, especially when she was in the kitchen. Lily's mom always said that she was born to sparkle, and Lily, indeed, becomes a shining star.
Lily Field: Born to Sparkle was written from Lily's perspective and is a book for children with Down syndrome or other special needs to let them know that they are not alone and to hopefully give them the courage to continue to learn and move forward just as Lily did.
