Within the pages of this delicate collection, Marsden's poems emerge as fragmentary expressions of light-brief glimpses into the soul's landscape. Both concise and expansive, these pieces invite the reader to traverse the intimate spaces between the lines, where the heart of the poet and the heart of the forest, of birth, of death, of the body merge in a shared twilight dance - like a path winding through the woods at dusk, offering a meeting with shadow and light, echoing the calls of our inner wilderness. With an easy intimacy, these heart thoughts gather into a mosaic that is a little bit raw, untamed and beautiful. A timely invitation to embrace the heart we so often seek. As a whole, these poems collect together into something ungloved and a bit wild... and we need a bit wild right now.
Light-eater
I sit
on the bed watching
thoughts fall.
Naproxen
Codeine
Paracetamol
You took them all, washed down with champagne.
A quiet Christmas cocktail.
Then returned to bed and slept.
The snow kept falling.
I go outside and open my mouth
to the sky.
To call. To catch.
To eat light.
Thoughts fall, it's okay.
I can swallow them
whole.
