When we are talking about machine learning, it is the process of teaching the program or the computer to use some of its experiences with the user to do a better job in providing results in the future.
An excellent example of this would be a program that used to filter out the spam emails that you get. There are a few different methods out there that you can use to make this happen. But one of the easiest ones is to teach the computer how you would like it to identify, memorize, and categorize all the emails in your inbox by labeling them as either safe or spam when they first enter into your email.
As a programmer, you may find that it is better you go through and do some programming on the computer rather than trying to ask the computer to go through the process and the effort it takes to memorize all of that information.
