Driven by his desire for success, Mac, the hard-working proprietor of a successful drug store, sees his life diverging from the close relationship with his family that he idealizes. He narrates his way through memorable and humerous interactions over 1 business day with his family, customers, physicians, and employees. He dreams of reconnecting with his children and plans a fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay for their upcoming visit, but a sudden and unforeseen tragedy alters his plans and serves as a warning to the reader regarding the pitfalls of postponing family bonding to a more convenient time.
