This wonderful original book, The Apple Press, was translated into Spanish by Maytée Ferrigno. The original English text is printed alongside the Spanish to encourage children, and their families, to read in both languages. The Adventures of Granite Creek encourages children of bilingual families to embraces both of their languages whatever they may be!
In Spanish, or English, readers can enjoy this story from the historic the historic fictional farming town of Granite Creek. You will come to love a pair of twin boys who will never fail to amaze you!
John and Aaron never stop.
They never stop playing.
They never stop eating.
They never stop drinking.
They never stop for a problem. Ever.
Well... almost never.
In The Apple Press, John and Aaron run into a problem that is almost the end of them. After running out of their beloved apple juice, they cleverly look for ways to get more juice for themselves. Oh, and their family wants some too. At one point, it looks like they may have taken things a wee bit too far!
With good old fashioned small town common sense, and a little help from their friends and family, they find a way to get to the finish line
From the Adventures of Granite Creek series, The Apple Press is one of four books currently in print that shares the timeless values of self-reliance, community, friendship and joy. All the stories revolve around characters with particular passions. All of us adults know a few children like these ones.
The Apple Press introduces John and Aaron, the fun-loving optimists, who cannot get enough fresh farm food and all things that can be made from it.
Harveen is a self-declared bugologist with an intense curiosity for insects of all types. We first meet her in The Humble Bee.
Ella is the perfect farm girl who gleans wisdom-a-plenty from her grandfather Wilf. She makes her first appearance in Victory is Sweet opposite her next door neighbour (Little) Tommy.
Aside from competing with Ella, nothing in the world makes Little Tommy happier than spending time hunting or fishing with his old man Big Tommy or his grandpa, Big Big Tommy. The Gift is a story waiting to be told.
Last but not least, Ephraim is the quiet farm boy who loves turning wrenches and all things mechanical. Unfortunately for him, his little sister, Sara, has a way of getting in the way. Sara's Bicycle is the perfect example of this.
In the community of Granite Creek our characters are real and fallible, but ultimately trying to be the best they can be. Fans of Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie will likely find the children as kindred spirits and some of their adventures as familiar. The books are meant to entertain and cultivate a life-long love of reading. They contain traces of Robert Munsch-like humour and Dr. Seuss-like simplicity. Story time readers will love them as will early independent readers.
Granite Creek Press was born in a small town of a few thousand people. The combination of self-reliant common sense and unwavering community support can be the same today as it was in generations past. Let's all learn to love one another a little more every day!
