Lurking In The Shadows: Monstrosities: A Dark Horror Series About Survival, Trauma, and Monsters

This episode is part of Lurking in the Shadows: Season 1, an anthology of standalone horror stories. Each episode tells a complete story and can be read in any order. While the episodes do not share continuity, the season concludes with a brief post-credit moment that subtly hints at a larger world. The series transitions into a shared universe beginning in Season 2.

Episode 10

It begins like any other day in Klamath, Oregon. By nightfall, survival is the only thing that matters.

Jackson, Logan, and Tyler have problems of their own.

School. Grades. Parents. The pressure of figuring out what comes after graduation. Jackson, in particular, is struggling beneath expectations he isn't sure he can live up to, while Logan and Tyler remain the friends he can count on when everything else becomes too much.

For the three of them, life is still ordinary... But beyond town, something has surfaced.

Deep in the surrounding wilderness, three creatures emerge unlike anything that should exist. Their bodies are covered in strange grey armor. An unnatural red glow burns beneath their flesh. One walks on two legs, armed with claws, crushing strength, and a shriek capable of bringing people to their knees. Another slithers across the ground like an enormous serpent. The third takes to the sky on massive wings.

And they are moving closer to civilization.

The first attacks leave behind little more than bodies, destruction, and terrified witnesses struggling to explain what they saw. Police respond expecting threats they understand.

They quickly discover that they are dealing with something else entirely.

Gunfire does little to stop the creatures.

People begin dying.

And the situation spirals out of control.

Civilians run for their lives. Soldiers are forced into battles they were never trained to fight. Orders change as quickly as they are given. Rescue attempts become desperate gambles. Every encounter with the creatures brings more destruction, more casualties, and fewer places left to escape.

But there is nothing simple about what they find. The creatures are stronger than expected. More resilient than expected. And with each failed attempt to stop them, the cost grows higher.

For Jackson, Logan, and Tyler, surviving means depending on one another in ways they never have before. Fear gives way to instinct. Decisions have to be made in seconds. People they meet along the way may be the reason they survive, or another life they are forced to watch disappear.

But survival is only part of what is unfolding. Because as the military struggles to regain control, questions begin to surface.

Where did these creatures come from? Why are they here?

And how can something this impossible exist without anyone knowing about it?

The answers may be worse than anyone realizes.

Because Klamath may not be the beginning.

Some things were meant to remain hidden in the shadows.

Klamath is about to discover what happens when they come out.

Monstrosities is the explosive Season One finale of Lurking In The Shadows, bringing an ordinary day crashing into a large-scale creature attack where friendship, fear, sacrifice, and survival collide. As civilians and soldiers become trapped in the same nightmare, the events in Klamath reveal that the horrors lurking beyond the public eye may be far larger than anyone knows.

And once you've seen what is hiding out there, there is no going back.
