The authors are practicing Louisiana notaries who also hold law licenses in Louisiana (Michele Childress) and California & D.C. (Steven Alan Childress). They previously published the best-selling guides to preparing for the notary exam: Michele wrote a simplified but comprehensive outline of the official state text, and Alan wrote the essential Sidepiece book of strategies for taking the exam, as well as a volume of practice exams.
