Louis XVII: Or The Arab Jew is a historical novel written by Georgina Weldon and first published in 1908. The book tells the story of the young French prince Louis-Charles, who was declared King Louis XVII after the execution of his father, King Louis XVI, during the French Revolution. The novel explores the various theories and rumors surrounding the fate of Louis XVII after his imprisonment in the Temple Tower in Paris. Weldon's novel presents a fictionalized account of Louis XVII's life, portraying him as a young boy who is rescued from the Tower by a Jewish merchant named Mordecai. Mordecai takes the boy to Algeria, where he is raised as an Arab Jew and given the name Yusuf. The novel follows Yusuf's journey as he grows up in Algeria and learns about his true identity as the heir to the French throne. Throughout the book, Weldon weaves in historical events and figures, such as Napoleon Bonaparte and the Battle of Waterloo. She also explores themes of identity, loyalty, and betrayal as Yusuf/Louis XVII must navigate his dual identities and allegiances. Overall, Louis XVII: Or The Arab Jew is a captivating historical novel that offers a unique and imaginative take on the life of Louis XVII.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
