The Louis XVI Furniture is a book written by Ernest Dumonthier in 1922 that provides a comprehensive overview of the furniture style that was prevalent during the reign of King Louis XVI of France. The book is divided into several chapters that cover different aspects of the style, including its origins, characteristics, and evolution over time.Dumonthier begins by tracing the roots of the Louis XVI style back to the reign of Louis XV, when a new interest in classical antiquity began to emerge in French design. He then describes the key features of the Louis XVI style, which include clean lines, geometric shapes, and a preference for light, natural materials such as wood and marble.Throughout the book, Dumonthier provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of various pieces of furniture that exemplify the Louis XVI style, including chairs, tables, cabinets, and beds. He also discusses the different materials and techniques used in the creation of these pieces, as well as the various craftsmen and workshops that were responsible for their production.Overall, The Louis XVI Furniture is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of French furniture design, as well as for collectors and enthusiasts of antique furniture. Dumonthier's thorough research and detailed descriptions make this book an essential reference for anyone seeking to understand the beauty and elegance of the Louis XVI style. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
