No book in history has exerted an influence comparable to that of the Bible. It is the manuscript that has shaped our cultural norms, social practices, and moral frameworks across centuries, and it remains by far the best-selling book ever produced. Yet a substantial portion of the Bible was originally written in Hebrew before being translated into English and numerous other languages. Because of the linguistic and conceptual complexity of the text, a fully precise translation is virtually impossible, resulting in meaningful differences between the original Hebrew text and the versions commonly read today.
Cases of inaccurate or incomplete translation include some of the most iconic verses of the Bible. Phrases such as Let my people go!, an eye for an eye, or you shall love your neighbor as yourself do not appear in the original Hebrew text in these exact words. The Garden of Eden most likely did not have a tree of knowledge of good and evil that led Adam and Eve to commit the original sin. These are some examples of concepts that are often misunderstood due to incomplete translation. In other cases, a correct translation provides an indication that the Bible predicted historical events that happened long after the Bible was written. That includes astonishingly accurate predictions of the sequence of events and even the exact years in which they happened.
