The RMS Titanic tragically sank on April 14, 1912 after colliding with a giant iceberg in the North Atlantic. More than 1,500 souls died that night but 700 survived, including the ship's Lookout, 24-year-old George Symons who hailed from Weymouth, U.K. George escaped on Lifeboat #1 with the help of his love and life partner, Angus Keller Kellerman, who stayed behind to rescue others but he perished that night.
This is the tale of how the sinking profoundly changed George's life and what this brave, tenacious young gay man did to survive including his attracting the amorous attentions of the famous married Sir Cosmo Duff-Gordon, a wealthy Scottish baron, who along with his glamorous wife, Lady Lucile, were both refugees on the same lifeboat. To keep handsome young George close at hand, Sir Cosmo devises a scheme to provide him a cover as his personal valet under the guise, Harry Hopkins, allowing George to avoid the inquiries, blame and finger-pointing that will inevitably follow such an enormous tragedy. In the tumult of 700 survivors rescued from the freezing open sea by the RMS Carpathia, it's relatively easy for George to assume his new identity. Nobody would dare question an Olympic-hero Scottish land baron.
Once safely in New York, George/Harry struggles to assume the duties of a valet in the 5th Avenue mansion owned by the Duff-Gordons. He incurs the jealous wrath of the family butler, Hugh Mason, who suspects the new valet is there under false pretenses. Harry also discovers the manipulative, salacious Sir Cosmo has certain expectations of his new valet and is used to getting his way. As Harry learns to navigate the politics and intrigue of living in a wealthy household, he receives the unsettling news that his father in England is gravely ill and his cherished younger brother, Edward, had to quit school to take care of him. He needs to escape the gilded prison to assume and create his own identity and life while the memory of his beloved Keller lives deep within him.
